The story

Henry was born around 1250 in Bolzano, a poor woodcutter who could not read. He moved to Treviso with his wife and son, and after they died he lived in a small room lent to him by a notary.

He visited every church in Treviso each day, slept on a hard bed and spent long nights in prayer. Though weak in body, he begged alms and shared them with other beggars.

He died alone in 1315. Crowds came to his funeral, and a bishop's commission recorded 346 reported miracles at his tomb in Treviso cathedral.

Blessed, not yet a saint

The Church has declared Henry of Treviso Blessed.

Beatification allows public veneration, usually in a particular region or religious family. Canonization extends it to the whole Church.
