The story

Maria Grazia Tarallo was born in 1866 in Barra, near Naples. At twenty-two she wanted to become a nun, but her father wanted her to marry. The young man she was engaged to died before the wedding, and in 1891 she entered the Sisters Crucified Adorers of the Eucharist in Barra, taking the name Maria of the Passion.

She served in turn as novice mistress, cook, laundress and doorkeeper. She was devoted to Christ's Passion and the Eucharist, and said, "My name is Sister Maria of the Passion, and I must resemble the Master." She died in 1912 and was beatified in 2006.

Legend and tradition. Witnesses reported mystical experiences in her life. The beatification does not depend on them.
