The story

Natalia Tułasiewicz was born in 1906 at Rzeszów, Poland. She was a lay teacher in Poznań and active in the lay apostolate.

During the German occupation she volunteered to go into Germany with Polish women sent there as forced labourers, to support them spiritually. The Gestapo discovered her in April 1944. She was tortured, publicly humiliated and sent to the Ravensbrück concentration camp.

On Good Friday 1945, with the last of her strength, she climbed onto a bench in her barracks and spoke to the other prisoners about Christ's passion and resurrection. She died in the gas chamber on March 31, 1945, the eve of Easter. John Paul II beatified her in 1999.

Blessed, not yet a saint
