Bl. Sandra Sabattini

Sandra Sabattini was a young woman from the Rimini area of Italy. Father Oreste Benzi welcomed her into his Pope John XXIII Community, which shares daily life with people on the margins. She was engaged to be married. She was hit by a car and died at twenty-two. Fr Benzi had her diary published: short reflections, prayers of surrender to God and notes of love for other people. She was beatified in Rimini in 2021, the first engaged young woman to be beatified. The miracle accepted for her beatification was the healing of a man, Stefano Vitali, from an aggressive bowel cancer.

Sandra Sabattini was beatified in 2021 by Pope Francis.

Beatification allows public veneration, usually in a particular region or religious family. Canonization extends it to the whole Church.
