Their story

Adapted in modern English from Alban Butler's Lives of the Saints · little is known

Flora's father was a Mahometan, but her mother secretly taught her the faith. Her own brother denounced her to the cadi of Cordova, who had her scourged and beaten on the head.

She escaped, then met Mary, sister of the martyred deacon Valabonsus, in the church of St. Acisclus. Together they presented themselves to the cadi. St. Eulogius, himself in prison, sent them his Exhortation to Martyrdom. Both were beheaded on 24 November. Butler and Baring-Gould agree on 851.

Baring-Gould’s sources: Roman and Spanish Martyrologies. Authority: — Saint Eulogius, Memor. lib. ii. c. 8. Eulogius was a sufferer in the same persecution. ] In the reign of Abderrammen II., Moorish king of Cordova, Flora, the daughter of a Mahometan Moor by a Christian mother, was denounced before the Cadi by her brother. She was scourged, and beaten on the head till her skull was exposed. She was then given to the care of her brother. She managed to escape over a wall, and took refuge with her sister at Ossaria. After having remained there in concealment for some time, she ventured back to Cordova, and with Mary, sister of the deacon Valabonsus, presented herself boldly before the Cadi, denounced Mahomet, and protested that they were ready to die for Christ. The Cadi sent them to prison. S. Eulogius, who was at that time also in prison, wrote to encourage them, and they were executed on the same day, November 24th.
