Their story
Adapted in modern English from Alban Butler's Lives of the Saints · Baring-Gould original below · little is known
Abban was the son of Cormac, king of Leinster, and of Mella, a sister of St. Ibar. He founded the abbeys of Kilabbain and Magharnoidhe. Butler gives that he died toward the end of the sixth century; Baring-Gould, the text on this page, gives the 5th century. The sources differ.
Early life
The book says little or nothing about early life. This is how the account begins.
Thin entry · the 1897 book gives only 32 words. We have not filled the gap with invented detail.
It is impossible to unravel the web of fable which passes as his Life, and to say what part of it belongs to which of the two saints of the same name.
