Their story
Adapted in modern English from Alban Butler's Lives of the Saints · Baring-Gould original below · little is known
Ischyrion is known from a letter of St Dionysius of Alexandria. He served as an officer to a magistrate in a city of Egypt.
When his master ordered him to sacrifice to idols, he refused. Neither insults nor threats moved him, and his master killed him by running a stake into his bowels. Butler gives 253; Baring-Gould, the text on this page, gives 250. The sources differ.
Early life
The book says little or nothing about early life. This is how the account begins.
Thin entry · the 1897 book gives only 162 words. We have not filled the gap with invented detail.
S. CHiEREMON, B.M. [Roman Martyrology. Usuardus, &c. Authority Same as for S. Ischynon, above.] “ Why should I mention the multitudes who wandered in deserts and mountains,” says S. Dionysius in his letter to the bishop of Antioch on the persecution that raged in Alexandria in the reign of Decius, u why mention those that perished by hunger and thirst, by frost and diseases, by robbers and wild beasts ? The survivors are the witnesses of their election and their victory.
